Sälen

From Malung Road 297 runs north through the valley of the Västerdalälv by way of the villages of Lima and Transtrand and comes in 65km/40mi to Sälen, a tourist center under the south side of the Transtrandsfjäll, the most southerly of Sweden's higher hills, in magnificent walking country. On the banks of the river is a monument to Gustavus Vasa, who reached this point in his flight from the Danes. Sälen is now the starting-point of the Vasa Run to Mora.

Salen is considered one of the three biggest ski-resorts in Sweden. It has an enormous cross-country ski area and 160 groomed slopes that appeal to families, beginners or experienced skiers.
