Sikoraphum

Sikoraphum, 32 km (20 mi.) east of Surin, is an old Khmer settlement, with fine - partly restored - temple grounds. The Wat Ra Ngeng (Prasat Hin Sikhoraphum) is 11th c. The main temple stands on a 25-m (82-ft) long terrace; the five tall prangs, which mark the corners and the center, create an attractive picture with the trees in leaf. The magnificently carved lintels and door posts of the central prang have been preserved in the best Baphuon style (11th c.) and inside are two fine Buddha statues. The covered galleries along the sides of the site are in very good condition.
