Alpeiner Gruppe

The Amberger Hütte is the starting point for the ascent of the Schrankogel (3,426m/11,241ft), the magnificent highest peak in the rugged Alpeiner Gruppe, the second largest glacier area in the Stubai Alps. From the mighty Ruderhofspitze (3,473m/11,395ft) heavily fissured glaciers descend towards the Neue Regensburger Hütte (2,286m/7,500ft) and the Franz-Senn-Hütte (2,147m/7,044ft) near Neustift in the Stubaital. The commanding Lüsener Fernerkogel (3,299m/10,824ft) can be climbed either from here or from Gries in Sellrain by way of the Westfalen-Haus (2,273m/7,458ft); and peak follows peak as the range continues northward, sending out numerous lateral spurs.
