Description
Southeast of Stockholm's Gustav Adolfs Torg, at the southern tip of the Blasieholm peninsula, is the National Museum, with Sweden's finest art collection, including painting and sculpture, decorative art and a department of modern applied art. The gallery has important works by Dutch and Flemish artists, including Rembrandt ("Conspiracy of Claudius Civilis" and "The Painter's Cook"), Rubens ("Bacchanale" and "Sacrifice to Venus") and Frans Hals the Elder ("Fiddler") and many pictures by 18th century French painters (Boucher, Watteau, etc.). Modern Swedish painting is represented by D. K. Ehrenstrahl, Al Roslin, Carl Fredrik Hill, Prince Eugen, Ernst Josephson, Carl Larsson, Bruno Liljefors, Karl Norström and Anders Zorn. There is also a department of graphic art, with interesting architectural drawings.

In the gardens on the northwest side of the museum is a bronze group, "The Wrestlers" ("Bältespännare", 1867), depicting an old Nordic form of wrestling in which the contestants were tied together at the waist.
