Stockholm - Norrmalm

From Gamla Stan the Norrbro leads into the Norrmalm district of Stockholm. At the end of the bridge is Gustav Adolfs Torg, with an equestrian statue of Gustavus Adolphus (1796). In the square, to the left, stands the Crown Prince's Palace (1783), which has been occupied since 1906 by the Foreign Ministry. To the right, with a view of the inlet of Strömmen, is the Opera House, and north of this is St James's Church (Jakobskyrka, 1643; tower 1735). From here a series of public gardens extend northward, with the Kungsträdgård (King's Garden), a favorite meeting place, and statues of Charles XII and XIII. In the Kungsträdgård is Sverigehus (Sweden House), with a tourist information office.
