St Polten Cathedral Description
On the St Pölten Domplatz stands the Cathedral of the Assumption; (originally Romanesque, 12th and 13th century). Between 1715 and 1756 the interior was remodeled in lavish Baroque style by Jakob Prandtauer; noteworthy are the frescos and paintings by Daniel Gran and other artists, the richly carved choir stalls, confessionals and pulpit. The Romanesque Rosary Chapel with its cross-ribbed vaulted ceiling at the end of one of the side aisles was once a separate building but was incorporated in the church proper during 13th century conversions.
