The Lost Gardens of Heligan were part of the largest horticultural restoration project in Europe. Restoration took place in 1991, when rockeries, summer houses, a crystal grotto, an Italian garden, a well and a series of walled gardens were discovered. A sub-tropical valley called "The Jungle" is filled with exotic trees and shrubs and is also part of the gardens. The valley overlooks the fishing village of Mevagissey.
