Springerville - Casa Malpais Pueblo
The Casa Malpais Indian Ruins are remnants of a Mogollan settlement from the 11th to the 14th C. Within these ancient ruins, pottery, food and baskets have been unearthed.
Casa Malpais, or "House of the Badlands" is surrounded by a rim of volcanic rock and provides a stunning view of the White Mountains to the south. Some notable features at Casa Malpais include the Great Kiva, which was constructed entirely of volcanic rock. A basalt staircase rises high into the red cliff wall, which leads to the top of the mesa.
