Museo del Ampurdán (Museu del Empordà)
At No. 2 on the Ramblas, the tree-shaded main street of the town, is the Museo del Ampurdán, devoted to the history of the Empordà (Spanish Ampurdán) area to the south of the town. On the ground floor is a collection of works by contemporary local painters. On the first floor are displayed ancient glassware, bronze ornaments and implements, black-figure amphoras, terracottas, etc. The earlier material comes largely from the excavations of the Iberian settlement at Ullastret and Ampurias. There are also examples of Romanesque and Gothic art, Baroque costumes and ship models.
