Watertown, SD Tourist Attractions

Watertown (pop. 20,000) is located in eastern South Dakota. The town was established in 1879 by the Winona and St Peter Railroad Co. More than 60 buildings in the uptown business district are included on the National Register of Historic Places. The nearby lakes provide year-round hunting, fishing and camping opportunities.
Codington County Heritage Museum
The Codington County Heritage Museum in Watertown is located in the former Carnegie Library which was built in 1905. Collections include local history artifacts, military objects from the Civil War through World War II, local natural history specimens, oil paintings and watercolors by local artists, and a limited amount of Native American artifacts.
Redlin Art Center
The gallery is located within the Redlin Art Center and features more than 130 of Terry Redlin's original oil paintings. Each painting has its own lighting and is hung individually. The Redlin Amphitheater presents video presentations about the artist, while the Dome Theater has educational programs and entertainment.
Mellette House
Mellette House in Watertown was the home of the first governor of South Dakota. The house was built in 1883 and has been restored, including furnishings with items belonging to the Mellette family.
Bramble Park Zoo
The Bramble Park Zoo is home to more than 500 mammals, reptiles and birds from around the world. The Discovery Center houses fish, amphibians and reptiles.
