Cullinan is where the largest rough diamond ever found, the 3106-carat Cullinan Diamond, came to light in 1905. It was presented to King Edward VII on his 66th birthday and in 1908 was split by an Amsterdam diamond-cutter into 105 pieces. The largest of them is now set in the scepter which is one of the British crown jewels.
The Cullinan Diamond Mine is a fully operational diamond mine producing around 1 million carats of diamonds every year, mainly for industrial use.
