Lærdal to Florø by Road
The only roads of any consequence in the Sognefjord are E16, coming from Valdres, and its continuation, Road 5.
From the road junction beyond Øye take E 16, which runs along the Otrovatn, through the Smeddal and via Borlaug to the Lðrdal.

Førde Florø
From Balestrand Road 5 turns north, following the west side of the Vetlefjord, and continues by way of Førde, at the head of the Førdefjord, chief place in the Sunnfjord district, to Florø (pop. 5,000), a port and industrial town attractively situated on the island of Brandsøy (bridge).
Sognedal
At Sognedal, on the Sognedalsfjord, are a runic stone (ca. 1100) and several burial mounds.
The road continues along the north side of the Sognefjord, passes through Hermansverk and Leikanger and comes to Hella, from which there is a ferry to Balestrand.

Svartegjel Gorge
From Borgund the road runs through the picturesque Svartegjel gorge, carved by the Lðrdalselv (a good salmon river) through the rock barrier of the Vindhella. Beyond Husum (alt. 316m/1,037ft) it passes through another magnificent gorge and comes to Lðrdalsøyri.
The road now runs along the south side of the Lærdalsfjord. From Revsnes there is a ferry across the Sognefjord to Kaupanger.
