Sognefjord - Boat Travel
Since there are no roads along the whole length of the Sognefjord, the best way to explore it is by boat. From Bergen a number of ships run cruises along the fjord.
During the summer the ships of the Hurtigrute sail twice daily from Bergen to Årdalstangen at the east end of the Sognefjord, calling at Lavik, Balestrand, Leikanger, Midfjord (transfers to Gudvangen and to Revsnes and Årdalstangen) and Flåm. Within the Sognefjord there are numerous local boat services (sometimes carrying cars) which offer the prospect of rewarding side trips. There are also car ferries on the following routes: Balestrand-Hella-Fjðrland, Hella-Vangsnes, Flåm-Aurland-Gudvangen, Kaupanger-Revsnes and Gudvangen-Kaupanger-Årdalstangen.
