Silves - Castelo dos Mouros

Above the town rears the massive Moorish castle, the Castelo dos Mouros, with its imposing battlemented walls of red sandstone, restored in 1940, and the ventilation systems and cisterns, up to 60m/197ft deep, put in by the Moors. A walk along the top of the walls provides views far out over the surrounding countryside, and in the summer there are son et lumière performances in the castle courtyard, full of ancient trees.

The Castelo dos Mourous offers a wonderful view of the silves region.
