Side - Agora Baths

Facing the northwest side of the agora in Side stand the imposing Agora Baths, which now house an interesting Museum containing the finest of the statues, reliefs, sarcophagi, urns etc. recovered during the 20-year Turkish excavation campaign (1946-67). The exhibits are displayed in the various restored rooms of the baths and in the garden.

Items of particular interest in the frigidarium are two Roman altars, a Hittite column base, a Roman sundial and a carving of weapons from the East Gate; in the caldarium figures of girls and women including the Three Graces; in the large tepidarium a magnificent sarcophagus with a frieze of Eroses, statues of Hercules (with the apple of the Hesperides in his hand), Hermes and the Emperor Licinius; in the small tepidarium a large statue of Nike, goddess of victory and in the palaestra garden architectural fragments, reliefs, Medusa heads etc.
