Sfax - New Town
Between the harbor to the southeast and the Medina to the northwest is the new town of Sfax, laid out on a regular grid during the French protectorate. In the center of the town, at the intersection of Avenue Habib Bourguiba, running east-west, and Avenue Hedi Chaker, which leads to the Medina, is the Place de la République, with a monument to Bourguiba.
