Campbeltown Attractions
Campbeltown, Kintyre's main town (pop. 6,200), was once the seat of the Campbells of Argyle. During the 18th/19th centuries the town flourished thanks to the coal production and fishing industries. Sir William MacKinnon (1823-1893) is one of Campbeltown's most famous sons. He was the founder of the British East Africa Company. Another famous Campbeltowner was William McTaggart (1855-1910) the Impressionist landscape painter.
