Schmalkalden - Altmarkt
The whole of the Old Town of Schmalkalden is protected as a historical monument. In the Altmarkt stands the Town Hall (mainly Late Gothic, much altered at the beginning of the 20th C.). Above the Ratskeller is the room in which the 16th C. League of Schmalkalden used to meet. In the lobby are murals (after Merian's plan) depicting the medieval town.
