Description
Avenida Brigadeiro Luís Antônio, which links the historic center with Avenida Paulista and then continues to Ibirapuera Park, runs through the district of Bela Vista, popularly called Bixiga, which in the course of time has been incorporated in the "Centro Novíssimo". Numbers of Italian immigrants have left their mark on Bela Vista, São Paulo's "Little Italy", which is well supplied with theatres, bars, typical Italian restaurants, cinema clubs, etc. The most notable tourist sights are the Museu de Memórias do Bixiga (Museum of Memories of Bixiga), which recalls the history of the district, and the parish church of Nossa Senhora de Aquiropita, which in August is the scene of a lively festival during which great quantities of pasta and pizzas are consumed.
