National Palace
An impressive staircase flanked by two stone lions leads to the main entrance of the Palacio Nacional built in the 1940s to house President Trujillo's government offices.

Still the seat of the Dominican government the long, imposing building is neoclassical in design and has an elegant dome, 34 m/112ft high and 18 m/59ft across.

Palace of Fine Arts
A varied collection of art is found at the Palace of Fine Arts located near the Malecón in Santo Domingo.
