Santarém - Igreja da Graça

Portugal Hotels
The Igreja da Graça lies to the southeast of the Igreja de Marvila. This late Gothic convent church was built towards the end of the 14th C. possibly by the architects of Batalha Abbey. The chief feature of the facade is the rose window, one of the largest in Portugal, made from a single block of stone. The church was the burialplace of the Meneses family. The founders of the family, Joao Afonso Teles de Meneses and his wife Dona Guimar de Vila Lobos, lie under graveslabs in the choir which bear their coatsofarms, their daughter's tomb adjoining. To the right of the choir is the tomb of Pedro Álvares Cabral (1467/68-1526), discoverer of Brazil, and his wife.
