Museum of Fine Arts

In an adobe building to the west of the palace is the Museum of Fine Arts (sculpture, pottery, woven fabrics).

Museum of Indian Arts and Culture

The Museum of Indian Arts and Culture, a renowned institution devoted to the traditional folk arts of the American Southwest, has impressive displays of Indian arts and crafts (headdresses, textiles, basketwork, jewelry, pottery, weaving).

Museum of International Folk Art

The Museum of International Folk Art has folk art and costumes from many different countries.
Established in 1953, the museum has the largest collection of international folk art in the world, including baskets, textiles, wood carving and ceramics. It is one of four Santa Fe museums collectively known as the Museum Of New Mexico.

Palace of the Governors

On the north side of the square is the fortress- like Palace of the Governors (1614), which was successively the seat of Spanish, Mexican and American governors and is believed to be the oldest public building in the United States. Here in 1880 Governor Lewis Wallace wrote part of his much-filmed novel "Ben Hur". Exhibitions in the palace trace the history of Santa Fe from prehistoric times to the present day, with particular emphasis on the Indian heritage. In the Hall of the Modern Indian are exhibits illustrating modern Indian culture.
