At the southeast corner of the Plaza in Santa Fe is the old-established adobe La Fonda Hotel, which marked the end of the Santa Fe Trail.

The current La Fonda Hotel was built in 1922 on the site of previous buildings. Famous guests have included Kit Carson, Errol Flynn, and John F. Kennedy.
