Caraça State Park

Caraça State Park

The College lies within the Caraça State Park (Parque Estadual de Caraça), established in 1990, which takes in 11,000 hectares/27,500 acres of mata atlântica - a wooded area, with caves and waterfalls, in which the source stream of the Rio Caraça rises. Notable features of the park are the Cascatinha, a waterfall which plunges down 40m/130ft in four "steps", forming a number of pools, and the Cascatona, which has a drop of 100m/330ft.

The park is reached from Belo Horizonte on the Sabará-Caeté-Barão de Cocais-Santa Bárbara road, or alternatively by taking BR 262 (Belo Horizonte-Vitória) as far as km73/48mi and then turning off for Barão de Cocais.
