Sandwich - Thornton Burgess Museum

 
The Thornton Burgess Museum is dedicated to the life and work of children's author and Sandwich resident Thorton W Burgess. Burgess wrote such children's classics as "Peter Rabbit" and "Old Mother West Wind." Located in the restored 1756 Eldred house once owned by his aunt, the Thornton Burgess Museum contains a large collection of his work and art by illustrator Harrison Cady.

Other items on display include books, toys, games, and household items that feature some of Burgess' most famous characters including Peter Rabbit, Reddy Fox, and Jimmy Skunk. An herb garden outside the house overlooks Shawme Pond.
