Sandwich - Heritage Museums & Gardens (formerly Heritage Plantation)

Heritage Museums & Gardens is a complex of Americana museums located within a 100-acre garden setting. The automobile museum is located in the reproduction of a Shaker Round Stone Barn. It contains about 35 antique cars including the 1930 Duesenberg Model J Derham Tourster, once owned by movie star Gary Cooper. Visitors can also see an original 1913 Ford Model T.

The Art Museum hosts a regular program of changing exhibitions and houses a comprehensive collection of American folk art.

Different varieties of medium and media are represented including portraits, metalwork, woodcarving, landscape paintings, glass, more than 150 Currier and Ives prints and more.

The Military Museum is located in a reconstruction of "The Temple," a Revolutionary War period recreation hall. It houses a collection of antique weaponry, flags, Native American artifacts and around 2000 hand painted miniature soldiers.

The Heritage Plantation is located on the former estate of horticulturist Charles O. Dexter, best known for his instrumental experiments with rhododendrons in the 20s and 30's. The gardens contain a wide variety of plants, shrubs, trees and flowers.
