San Diego - Cabrillo National Monument

The best way to get to the Cabrillo National Monument - situated right at the end of Point Loma, 10mi/16km from San Diego - is to go via North Harbor to Rosecrans Street, then turn into Cannon Street, Catalina Boulevard and Cabrillo Memorial Drive.

When visibility is good, the National Monument provides a panoramic view as far as La Jolla to the north, the Pacific to the west, Mexico to the south and San Diego County to the east.

Must-see attractions nearby:
From mid-December to mid-February it is also a good point from which to observe the whales on their migration south.

A brief visit to the well-equipped Visitor Center with its little museum will provide by means of brochures and a slide-show information about the origins of the National Monument and the history of the discovery of California. Not far away stands the Cabrillo Monument, erected by a compatriot of Cabrillo, the Portuguese Alvaro de Bree.
