San Antonio - Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge

The Bosque Del Apache National Wildlife Refuge contains 57,191 acres on the banks of the Rio Grande near San Antonio, New Mexico. The refuge serves as a winter home for Sandhill Cranes, hosting as many as 14,000 each winter. There are over 325 different bird species, including snow geese, whooping cranes and bald eagles.

Chupadera Wilderness

The 5,289-acre Chupadera Wilderness area is located within the Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge. Wildlife in the area includes mule deer, quail, coyote, and mountain lions.

Indian Well Wilderness

The 5,139-acre Indian Well Wilderness is part of Bosque Del Apache National Wildlife Reserve near San Antonio. In addition to wildlife and hiking trails, there are Indian archaeological sites.

Little San Pascual Wilderness

Little San Pascual Wilderness is a section of the Bosque Del Apache National Wildlife Refuge, on the east side of the Rio Grande. The flat desert terrain provides homes for wildlife including mule deer, coyote, and roadrunners.
