Salzburg - Provincial Theater and Marionette Theater Landestheater and Marionettentheater

On the southwestern side of the Makartplatz in Salzburg is the Provincial Theater (Landestheater), built 1892-93, altered 1939. Behind that, at No. 24 Schwarzstrasse, is the Marionette Theater (excellent performances of old puppet shows, as well as Mozart's operas).

The Salzburg Puppet Theater aims to present repertoires similar to those of big opera houses, but with a twist.

The puppets perform world-famous productions, both orchestral and vocal. Not only are the puppets themselves a spectacular sight, but the set designs are equally magnificent, often designed by some of the most prominent names in the business.

The theater's season runs between May and September, with special performances at Christmas and Easter. During the rest of the year, the theater embarks on tours throughout the world.
Address: Salzburger Marionettentheater, Schwarzstrasse 24, A-5020 Salzburg, Austria
