Faneromeni Monastery Description
(Local Name: Moní Faneroméni) 6km/4mi west of Salamína on a scenically beautiful road is the Faneroméni monastery, which is revered as the scene of various apparitions of the Mother of the God and has fine frescoes. The monastery was founded in 1661 on the site of an ancient sanctuary, re-using architectural elements from the older buildings. To the south are the remains of the small fort of Boudorón (sixth century B.C.). At the foot of the hill on which the monastery stands is the landing-stage used by the ferry from Megálo Péfko (Mégara).
