On the left bank of the Saar is the Old Town of Saarbrücken. In Schlossplatz are the Old Town Hall (Altes Rathaus), in which is the Adventure Museum, and the Hereditary Prince's Palace, both designed by Stengel, and the 19th C Schloss, built on the site of an earlier palace by Stengel which was destroyed during the French Revolution. From the Schlossgarten there is a fine view of the town. Lower down stands the Late Gothic Schlosskirche (rebuilt 1956-58), with stained glass by G. Meistermann and tombs of the ruling family.
