A few miles west of Roskilde, near Lejre, lies Ledreborg, one of Denmark's finest Baroque buildings dating from the 17th and 18th century. The main building was converted in the 18th century for Count J. L. Holstein, under the guidance of the Roccoco architect Niels Eigtved. The original furnishings and paintings have remained unspoiled. Note particularly the domed Salon and the magnificent Chapel in an adjoining building. The park is attractively laid out in the English and French styles, with terraces and walkways (park open all the year round, 11 a.m. - 5 p.m.).
