Roermond - Cathedral of St Christoffel

In the Markt stands the Cathedral of St Christoffel (15th C.), destroyed during the Second World War and subsequently rebuilt, when the tower with its four little corner turrets (ca. 1600) was given a modern spire in Baroque style. The Cathedral has a sacramental altar in Renaissance style (1593), fine 16th century choir-stalls and a pulpit in Louis XIV style by Petrus Vinck (early 18th C.), supported on a figure of St John of Capistrano. Notable among the paintings are Rubens's "Head of the Crucified Christ" and T. W. Bosschaert's "Ascension" (1722). The modern stained glass is by Joep Nicolas.
Typical Visit: 30 minutes
