Roanoke - Center in the Square

The History Museum & Historical Society of Western Virginia in Roanoke is a vast resource on everything related to Western Virginia. The 16,000 square foot facility houses the 6000-item collection. The Historical Society also conducts ongoing research on the area and has over 8000 photographs in its collection.

The Science Museum of Western Virginia and Hopkins Planetarium located in Roanoke features a variety of fun exhibits for young and old. Some of the permanent exhibits include the Earth Treasures Gallery, the Light and Sound Arcade, the Weather Gallery among many others. The museum also boasts of a planetarium with a constantly changing presentation, check to see what's coming up.

Taubman Museum of Art (formerly the Art Museum of Western Virginia) in Roanoke is one of the city's cultural hot spots. Featuring several permanent galleries of 19th and 20th Century art, the museum also hosts traveling exhibits on a regular basis. It is housed in a 66 million dollar building designed by architect Randall Stout of Los Angeles.
