Rijeka Governor's Palace and Maritime and Historical Museum of Coastal Croatia Guvernerova Palaca i Povijesni I Pomorski Muzej

The Governor's Palace (Guvernerova Palaca) in Rijeka was the former residence of the Hungarian governor. Today the Palace houses the Maritime and Historical Museum of Coastal Croatia (Povijesni I Pomorski Muzej). The neo-Renaissance building was designed by Alajos Haussmann, an architect from Budapest and was built in the late 1800s. The Governor's Palace is worth of visit on its own just for its grandeur. The Maritime and Historical Museum of Coastal Croatia is also quite interesting with model ships and a range of nautical equipment. There is also a selection of archeological finds from prehistoric times to the Middle Ages, as well as an ethnographic collection and furniture displays. The museum was first established in 1876 but has been housed in the Governor's Palace since 1955.
