Block Island - Southeast Lighthouse
The Southeast Lighthouse on Block Island was built in 1875. It was originally built 300ft/90m from the edge of the bluff but by the 1990's erosion caused the structure to come within 55ft/17m of the bluff. The building sustained wear causing the coast guard to deactivated the lighthouse in 1990 and set up a steel tower instead.
Volunteers with the Block Island Southeast Lighthouse Foundation raised money and had the lighthouse moved another 300ft/90m from the bluff. It was listed as a National Historic Landmark and placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1997.
