Randers - Gammel Estrup Manor House

3 km/2mi west of Auning stands Gammel Estrup, a stately home surrounded by a moat built about 1500 and rebuilt in the Renaissance style. The owners of Gammel Estrup, members of the noble families of Brok and Skeel, were for many years linked with the Danish royal family in the roles of advisors and confidants. In the early 20th century the building was fitted out as the Jutland Manor House Museum (Jyllands Herregardsmuseum). The architects were Matthias Bygmester and Jørgen Skeel. The south wing and staircase tower have been newly built.

Gammel Estrup Museums
The Gammel Estrup manor house contains two museums; in the manor house itself is "Gammel Estrup, Jutland's Manor House Museum", while "The Danish Agricultural Museum" is found in the farm buildings of Gammel Estrup.

The owners of Gammel Estrup, members of the noble families of Brok and Skeel, were for many years linked with the Danish royal family in the roles of advisors and confidants. In the early 20th C. the building was fitted out as the Jutland Stately Homes Museum (Jyllands Herregårdsmuseum). Furniture and fittings from various eras help to convey the right atmosphere to the rooms - the Knights' Hall, Renaissance Room, Chapel and Watchman's Lodge.

The Agricultural Museum (Dansk Landbrugsmuseum) consists of several buildings, including a cafe, and is used for exhibitions as well as being a culture center. Between April 1 and October 31 members of the Gammel Estrup Blacksmiths' Guild give demonstrations of the way artifacts are produced by hand in an old smithy.
