Description
Whether the visitor comes to Ragusa by bus, train or by car, the first place reached is the New Upper Town of Ragusa Superiore. Coming in by rail or along the road from Mädica is a particularly beautiful trip; the route to the Upper Town leads past the picturesque Old Town down on the right.

Sightseeing

The best place to start from is the Piazza del Popolo near the rail station and central bus station.

It lies south of the gorge of the Torrente Santa Domenica, which is spanned by three bridges, the modern Ponte di Papa Giovanni XXIII which is the furthest down, the Ponte dei Cappucini (first half of the 19th century) and the Ponte Senatore Pennavaria (1936). From the Piazza del Popolo the visitor should proceed northwards to the nearby Piazza della Libertà and thence over the wide Ponte Senatore Pennavaria to Via Roma, when he will find himself in the district where the town was founded in the 17th-18th centuries, with its rectangular street layout.
