Radstädter Tauern Road
Radstadt sees the start of the 22km/13.5mi long Radstädter Tauern Road to the Tauern pass (1,738m/5,702ft) and the Taurachbach valley to the south. Since the opening of the motorway running westward through the Tauern Tunnel this road has lost its importance as a through route into Styria and Carinthia, but is still the approach road from the north to the popular winter sports and holiday area on the Tauernhöhe.

Tauernpasshöhe
Hotels extend up to the Tauernpasshöhe (1,738m/5,702ft), the meadow-covered saddle of the Radstädter Tauern. Near the pass, from which the Radstädter Tauern Road descends into the Lungau, lies the Friedhof der Namenlosen ("Cemetery of the Nameless Ones"), in which unknown victims of avalanches and other natural catastrophes have been buried. There is a whole network of good footpaths in this area. From Obertauern experienced climbers can scale a number of peaks over 2,000m/6,500ft in two to four hours.
