Querétaro - Hill of the Bells
(Local Name: Cerro de las Campanas) The Capilla de Maximiliano stands on the Cerro de las Campanas ("Hill of the Bells") on the western edge of the town. This chapel was endowed by the Austrian emperor Franz Joseph in memory of his brother, the Emperor Maximilian of Mexico, who was executed on this spot. The enormous statue of his victorious opponent, the Mexican president Benito Juárez, towers over the chapel.
