Quad Cities - Rock Island Arsenal

Housed in the Colonel George Davenport mansion, (the home of the namesake of the city of Davenport, IA) are artifacts representative of the early to mid-1800s which reflect the lifestyle of the Davenport family such as furniture, draperies, dishes, floor coverings, decorations and ornamentations. An exhibit room pictorially depicts the restoration project of the previously ravaged home. Custom narrated tours about the history of Colonel Davenport and the home are available at the house, along with a gift shop.

Established in 1905, the Rock Island Arsenal Museum houses a collection of military and civilian firearms. Exhibits of the history of Arsenal Island are on display. The Rock Island Arsenal was established in 1862 and began manufacturing leather horse equipment, meat cans and canteens, paper targets, artillery recoil mechanisms and carriages, and the Model 1903 rifle.
