The Aga Khan Palace is an historical landmark. Mahatma Gandhi delivered his Quit India speech here in 1942 and the British promptly imprisoned him along with his wife and secretary.
Gandhi's wife, Kasturba and his secretary for 35 years, Madoebhai Desai both died while imprisoned. Their ashes are kept on the grounds in memorial shrines.
