Puerto Rico - South Coast

Prior to the 1980's, the Southern Coast of Puerto Rico was difficult to reach. However, since the opening of Hwy 52, the travel time over the Cordillera Central Mountains has been reduced considerably. Visitors to the South Coast will notice an attitude of "us and them" pertaining to the "two Puerto Ricos" of the north and south.

The South Coast has several interesting towns including Guánica, Ponce, and La Parguera. Although mostly bereft of beaches, the South Coast does offer a glimpse into the Puerto Rico of days gone by. The people tend to be friendly and helpful and the pace of life a bit slower.
