Doornkloof Farm
Doornkloof Farm was once the home of Jan Christiaan Smuts, prime minister of the Union of South Africa. Still retaining most of its original furniture, it has been restored and is now a museum. Around the house are picnic spots, camping sites and a tea garden.

Papatso
The Papatso craft center north of the village of Hammanskraal, is where local craftsmen and women, mainly Ndebele, sell their products including clay pots, sophisticated necklaces, classic masks and contemporary metalwork. The brightly colored Ndebele houses are highly photogenic.

To the west of Hartbeespoort at the foot of the Magaliesberg range, is the little town of Rustenburg, a favorite resort of the people of Pretoria. Near the town, in a beautiful hill setting, is the Rustenburg Nature Reserve, an ideal area for long walks.

On the north side of the town is Boekhoutenfontein, Paul Kruger's farm. Some of the old buildings have been preserved, including Kruger's house, built in 1863.
