Ovar Attractions

At the north end of the Ria de Aveiro is Ovar (pop. 25,000, timber), famous for its Carnival with splendid processions through the streets of the town.
Calvário
The Calvário, with six chapels, is a scheduled national monument.
The Calvario is a prime highlight of the town of Ovar. Popular for its life-sized sculptures which date back to the 18th century, the Calvario chapel is a pilgrimage site for Christians.
Holy Week
Holy Week is celebrated on a particularly grand scale with many processions. Ovar has a romaria and fireworks.

The interesting local museum contains modern painting, folk art and ethnographical material.
