Lousa - Serra da Lousa Attractions

The best base from which to explore the Serra de Lousa is the little town of Lousa (alt. 172m/564ft, pop. 7,500), at the northern foot of the range, which has some handsome 18th C. patrician houses and the Igreja da Misericórdia, which is worth seeing built around 1550 with a beautiful Renaissance door.
Miradouro de Nossa Senhora da Piedade
High above Lousa (3km/2mi south on the road to Castanheira de Pêra) is the Miradouro de Nossa Senhora da Piedade, from which there are panoramic views. A nearby castle has a massive 14th century keep.
Rio Aronce
A pleasant walk from Lousa is along the narrow valley of the Rio Aronce, past many little white chapels, up to the Penhasco dos Eremitas, where there is a fine view.
