Coastal Beira Attractions Beira Litoral
Beira Litoral occupies a swathe of land extending along the coast from Ovar to Monte Real, relatively narrow in the north but becoming broader about the latitude of the chief town Coimbra. It is bounded on the east by the heights of the Serra do Caramulo, the Serra da Estrêla and the Serra de Lousa. This is a landscape of dunes with pinewoods planted to consolidate them, marshy river estuaries (Vouga, Mondego) and salt pans (Ria de Aveiro). Only in the inland parts of the region are grain and vegetables grown.
Costa Nova, Portugal
Along the Atlantic coast west of Aveiro stretch the beautiful sandy beaches of the "Silver Coast", the Costa de Prata. These include Sao Jacinto, about 8km/5mi west of Aveiro, and, further south, Barra and Costa Nova, one of the region's finest coastal villages. They offer not only good sea bathing but excellent water sports facilities in the lagoon (sailing, rowing, motorboats, water skiing).
