Coastal Beira
(Local Name: Beira Litoral) Beira Litoral occupies a swathe of land extending along the coast from Ovar to Monte Real, relatively narrow in the north but becoming broader about the latitude of the chief town Coimbra. It is bounded on the east by the heights of the Serra do Caramulo, the Serra da Estrêla and the Serra de Lousa. This is a landscape of dunes with pinewoods planted to consolidate them, marshy river estuaries (Vouga, Mondego) and salt pans (Ria de Aveiro). Only in the inland parts of the region are grain and vegetables grown.
