Arouca Attractions

It is worth making the 40km/25mi trip eastwards from Vila de Feira to Arouca along narrow roads leading through lonely mountain countryside. The convent at Arouca was founded in the 10th century, but the present buildings are 17th and 18th century. In the convent church note particularly the choir-stalls (1725) and the Baroque organ (1739). The museum on the first floor of the old convent contains a valuable collection of Portuguese religious art.
Feira das Colheitas
The town of Arouca hosts the annual fall fair for regional and folk events. It is a display of agricultural and livestock exhibits with different types of entertainment.
