Portland - Surroundings

To the south of Portland is Cape Nelson State Park, with an impressive stretch of coastal scenery and a lighthouse. At Cape Bridgewater, 21km west, are a petrified forest and blowholes. There are pleasant walks to Discovery Bay and Cape Duquesne.

From Portland the Princes Highway runs inland to Mount Gambier in South Australia. The road along the coast to the west leads to the pretty little holiday resort of Nelson. On Lake Condah, 50km east of Portland, an old mission station has been rebuilt.
