Portland Art Museum

The Portland Art Museum on Park Avenue has a collection of high quality art in a variety of fields, including Indian art and Renaissance pictures in the Kress Collection. The Portland Art Museum is the seventh oldest museum in the United States. It was founded in 1892 and over the years has amassed a substantial and varied collection. The number of items is in excess of 42,000 and a small portion is displayed in over 112,000 square feet of gallery space. Highlights of the museum's collection include Native American artifacts, graphic arts, English silver, American Art, Asian Art, European Art, Photography, and Northwest Art.
One of the Portland Art Museum's most notable art pieces is Vincent Van Gogh's Ox Cart, which was donated in 2007. Also part of the museum is the Northwest Film Center School of Art and the Crumpacker Family Library.

Waterfront Park

From the Portland Building continue in the direction of the river to Waterfront Park. The park, through which runs Front Street, extends along the Yamhill Historic District. The converted premises now housing shops and restaurants were originally used for harbour business. To the north the park stretches as far as the Skidmore Fountain, where a colourful Saturday market is held. En route are the Maritime Center and Museum (113 Front Ave.) and the Jeff Morris Memorial Fire Museum (111 Front Ave.). North of Burnside Street, at 9 NW 2nd Avenue is the American Advertising Museum.

Oregon Maritime Center and Museum

The Maritime Center and Museum in Portland features a glimpse of the 150-year history of shipping, shipbuilding and river navigation. The museum has a display of military ships including the Battleship Oregon.

Cascade Sternwheelers

Cascade Sternwheelers is a sternwheeler replica that travels the Columbia River Gorge and traces part of Lewis and Clark's historic route.

Portland Spirit

The Portland Spirit in Portland is a dinner ship that can seat 350 people for dinner cruises. The ship offers dinner cruises on the Willamette and Columbia Rivers.

KOIN Center

The KOIN Center in Portland is a 35 story (509 ft) building with a pyramid top. It provides excellent views of Mt. Hood, Mt. St. Helens, the Willamette River and Portland's Waterfront Park. The building has offices on floors 4-19 and the upper 11 floors are luxury apartments.

Chapman Square

Chapman Square is one of two courthouse squares in Portland. It was named for Iowa legislator William Williams Chapman. The square contains a memorial to the Spanish-American War.

Portland Building

At the corner of Madison Street and 5th Avenue is the Portland Building, with a glass and concrete facade with features borrowed from historic buildings that make it one of the forerunners of postmodern architecture.

City Hall

The City Hall in Portland is located in a 103 year old building which has received extensive renovations. The historic character has been preserved while modernizing the space.

Portland Police Historical Museum

The Portland Police Historical Museum features uniforms, handcuffs, guns and photos that relate to local police history.

Morrison Bridge

The six-lane Morrison Bridge in Portland was built in 1958 and marked the beginning of freeways and faster cars in the area. The original bridge on the site was built in 1887 of wood and a new swing bridge was built in 1905.

Old Church

The Old Church in Portland was built in 1883 and includes Carpenter Gothic architecture and Victorian furniture. The building's windows are stained glass works. Of note is the Templeton window.

Pioneer Courthouse Square

Pioneer Courthouse Square, between Southwest Broadway and Southwest Morrison Street, is a rendezvous for Portlanders at any time of day. It is also a good starting point for exploring the town.

US Bancorp Tower

The US Bancorp Tower in Portland is the largest building in Oregon. The building, also called Big Pink, is unique in color and shape and can be seen from viewpoints around the city.

Burnside Bridge

The Burnside Bridge marks the absolute center of Portland. Opened in 1926, Burnside is a historically significant structure. It features Italian Renaissance towers.

American Advertising Museum (closed)

The American Advertising Museum in Portland displays advertising and business artifacts from advertising agencies, advertisers, media, private collectors and other museums, including the Smithsonian Institution.

Ira Keller Fountain

This fountain is named for Ira Keller, a man who instilled civic pride in many residents of Portland. This one city block features waterfalls, pools and greenery.

Oregon History Society

The Oregon History Center in Portland features displays and hands-on exhibits related to the history of Oregon.

Oregon Sports Hall of Fame

The Oregon Sports Hall of Fame features Oregon Sports history, with hands-on exhibits, videos, uniforms, trophies and chances for photo opportunities.
